One Last Thing!!

Wow! I am very excited I have completed the 23 Things! This has been the most effective and informative program I have learned about in a while. Some of my favorite learning exercises were Flickr,Animoto, Picasa Web Albums, and mashups. This program has affected my lifelong learning goals by giving me tools and information I can use in my future classroom to become and effective teacher. What I have learned through this program will guide me in the right direction of making learning fun for the children using technology. From here on out I will try to continue learning about the new Web 2.0 tools and using them effectively in the future!

Thing #23

The item posted below shows that The 23 things is based on someone's work. I don't really know how I would use Creative Commons in the future because I want to teach younger children and it is a hard topic for younger children to understand. But I think Creative Commons is a great thing at the middle and high school level.

Thing #22

I chose the Crazy Dave's Kids Show podcast from Podcastdirectory.com. This would be a cute podcast to show to young children during Hallowwen. I found that Podcast Drcetory was the easiest one to use. I think podcast are great and can be used in many ways within the classroom. Here is a link to the podacast I listened to!

Thing #21

I created a video compiled with pictures of the people who are most important to me in my life! I love Animoto! It was really simple to use and quick! I can see myself using this again in my classroom and for my own purposes!

Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

Thing #20

Here is a Video that I felt was worth adding to my blog. It relates to my standard which is Identify Characters, Plot, and Setting! I liked this exercise because I love YouTube. There are so many videos that could be useful in the classroom or for one's enjoyment.

Thing #19

Thing #18

Well, this was easy! Considering I already have a  Facebook, I am glad to know I am already using a Web. 2.0 tool! Here is a link to my Facebook profile... http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=1512708267. I think it is important for educators to know how social networking works because if they do have a Facebook or Myspace they have to be careful not to put anything on there for students, co-workers, or parents to see. I think that between Facebook and Myspace I like Facebook the most, it is more formal than Myspace. I cannot see myself using either one within the classroom because it is just to personal and I think that for younger children they should not use one at all.

Thing #17

I think that del.icio.us is great tool to use! Teacher can use this tool to share information with students whether it be  tutorials, or a subject that is being discussed in class. Also, this tool can be useful for teachers because it is easy to share information or new technologies with co-workers. I can see myself using this tool in my future classroom. Its a great and easy tool to use and I will definitely take advantage of it in the future!

Thing #16

The start page that I chose for this activity was IGoogle. It appealed to me, number one because it was pink and number two it had the weather on it! I will make this my homepage because it is fun and also has updated news, music, and entertainment! As for the online calenders, I rally would just rather use a planner. But, the online calenders could be useful in my future classroom to allow students and parents to view the monthly calender online. I also think the to do lists are to much work. It is much easier to grab a pen and paper. For Thing #16 I liked the IGoogle and this is what I will recommended to other to add!

Thing #15

I really enjoyed this activity! I think wiki is great! I might use a wiki in my future classroom to use as a class or individual project to create a wiki and add information accordingly. Also, i might just use wiki for information for myself. What i find interesting about wiki is that there is a lot of information out there, with different point of view. I will definitely use this in the future!

Thing #14

For this activity I chose the Gliffy flow chart and MindMeister mindmap. I love Gliffy! It is an amazing website. They have everything from Venn diagrams, flowcharts, floor plans, and templates to create a website. This website is wonderful and I will definably use it in the future! On the other hand I found the MindMeister very confusing. It was just to much to put on the map. I would definitely use Gliffy in my classroom, but not so much MindMeister.

Thing #13

ZohoWriter was very interesting! But, I like Microsoft Word much better. This website seems like it is much more technical to use and takes a lot more time. This website could be used within the classroom to make teh document more interesting for the students, but I would rather just stick to Microsoft Word since that is what I am used to.

Thing # 12

For this activity I chose the Picassa web albums and the Google Calender. I really liked both of these tools. Although I like the calender I would rather use my school planner because it is easier to carry around. As for the Picassa web album,s I really liked it because it keeps track of your albums that you have online. I feel that I will continue to use the web albums but not the Google Calender.

Thing #11

The method I used was the Google search. I found this the easiest and that is what I stuck with. Some useful feeds that I found were: 1. Cool Cat Teacher Blog
                                     2. Hip Hop Wired
                                     3. EduBlog's Award Winners

I chose the three blog sites because they are informational and educational. The Hip Hop Wired tells you what is going on in the world and the other two are educational blogs. I feel that I will continue to keep up with these blogs by using my Google Reader.

Thing #10

I really like RSS and news reader because it is much simpler to be able to look at my Google Reader and see what new information is available than having to click on every website or blog page to see the new information.I feel i can use this new technology in my personal life by keeping up with new blogs that people have posted instead of having to go to everyone's pages and see the new blog. Teachers can use RSS to keep up with other teacher's blog or educational websites that are out there. I really like Google Reader and will continue to use it!

Thing #9

                                             Link to Word Mosaic
                                                  Link to Football Jersey
For these photos I used Image Chef. I really liked this tool. The first image is a word mosaic with my favorite saying Live, Learn, and Laugh. Those three words are what I live by. The second image i chose to do was a Tennessee Football jersey because I love Tennessee Volunteers Football!! It's Football Time in Tennessee I love to hear that! I will definitely use this tool again whether it be in my classroom or personally. For the classroom I feel I might use it to introduce myself to the students by creating these various pictures to tell them about myself and show them in a power point. I really enjoyed this activity it was fun!

Thing #8

For this activity, my mashup that I used was Big Huge Labs. I really enjoyed this activity it was fun and easy.I chose do to Fall pictures because it is my favorite season of the year. I love to see the leaves change colors and these pictures are very beautiful. Using Flicker was easy for this activity unlike Thing #7. I would use this activity in my classroom my whichever topics I am teaching I could create a mashup to show various topics and it would be fun and entertaining for the students. As, for sharing photos online it doesn't bother me that much and I think that if people are sharing their photos I should also contribute my own. I feel that I will definitely use this tool again. Whether it be to make a collage of photos for my self or to give as neat gifts for friends and family!

Thing #7

These are three of my favorite pictures that I have in various albums. The pictures include my wonderful boyfreind Ric, my sister Stevie, my grandmother, and my favorite cousin Belle. These people are very influential and important in my life and that is why i chose these three photos! I found that Flickr was very difficult to use , but overtime it would probably become easier to use. I have never used another photo hosting service but I find Flickr very interesting. I probably would not integrate Flickr in my classroom, but could change my mind within the next few years and overtime might find it easier to use!

Thing #6

I found out that I actually use a lot of the tools listed in the Webware 100 list such as: Facebook, Google, Craigslist, Paypal, and various others. I found this activity very interesting and useful! I really enjoyed this activity! I have been wondering what Skype actually is because young adults at the daycare I work at say they use this. Well now I know exactly what it is! Skype is a form of interacting via Internet.http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/features/. I liked this website because it could be a great form of communication whether it be family and friends who live far away, or using it to chat with freinds from school this website could be a very good form of communication.

I feel that Skype could be used successfully in a school setting. Whether it be a student who is very ill and cannot attend class the instruction could be streamed through Skype and technically the student would be getting instruction he or she needs! Also, if we are learning about a different culture within the classroom we could contact someone from this culture and talk to them via Skype. Either way Skype is a great form of communication and could be useful in a classroom setting!

Thing #5

Technology is the new thing in our world today. Whether it is an i pod, computer, or other activities technology is being used in many different ways today in society. "School 2.0" to me means integrating the web in the classroom and having students work with the new technologies that are out there. I think that using "web pals" instead of pen pals is a very interesting idea. When i was in elementary school we had pen pals and it was so fun to hear about what other people were doing around the world. Using "web pals" is useful for the students to learn about different cultures. Students can also use the web for using research for various different projects.

I feel for the future schools will be using "School 2.0". Students can do various things on the internet and technology is getting more advanced everyday. Some people may thing that using the web is a form of laziness but in all reality technology is the real deal. Students should be able to use technology to become educated and learn for themselves.

Thing #4

Thing #4 was actually very informational for me. I feel that by commenting their are many different outcomes and ideas a person can get out of it. Commenting also creates a sense of community. I feel that by commenting everyone can interact with one another and also help each other learn new things. When a person leaves a comment not only does it lift your spirits a little, it also can give you new information or ideas that you didn't know before. By commenting on each others blogs we are interacting and learning which are both key components in a community.
From The Blue Skunk Blog i learned that when someone leaves a comment on my blog the least I can do is say thank you. It  is important to do this because if they took the time to comment on my blog I will also return the favor. From ProBlogger I learned that it is important to be humble in my blog posts. By being humble it gives people a sense that you don't know it all and are open to learning new ideas and their thoughts!
The five classmates I chose to follow were:
1. Matthew Ciezki- I chose his blog to follow because the first blog was so informational and he is a very good writer. I also have two classes with him and I thought it would be neat to follow his blog and hear his thoughts!
2. Joan Ryan- I chose to follower Joan's blog because her avatar was cute and because she seemed very interested and enthusiastic in her first blog.
3. Devin Huser- I have had a couple classes with her and she is very outgoing and friendly!
4. Heather Goodman- I sit beside her in class and she is very nice and I wanted to keep up with her blog.
5.Michelle Carpenter- I also sit beside her in class and her first blog was very interesting and fun to read!

The two profiles I chose outside of the classroom are:
1. Lola Fields- She is my aunt and also a scrapbooker that is why I chose to Folow her page.
2. Angela Holt- She is a friend of my aunt and also a scrapbooker. I have known her for a couple of years now and she is a great person.

Comments made on blogs:
1. I commented on Michelle Carpenter's Thing #4 because she is also following my blog!
2.I commented on Matthew Ciezki's Thing #3 because I agreed with him that blogging would be a great form of communication between student and teacher!
3.I commented on Joan Ryan's Thing#8 because her picture spelled out the word sleep which we are apparently both not getting enough of!

Thing #3

Like I said before, I am new to the blog, but I am really enjoying it. I feel that as I keep moving forward in my education and in the future  I could benefit in using a blog. When I am going through my student teaching I feel that a blog could beneficial not only for me, but but also the students. By using a blog I could post assignments that are due, events that are coming up around school, post the lunch menu for the week, and weekly reminders. This would allow not only for the students to have access to it,  but also the parents. I feel that using a blog would be a very good source of communication.

Thing #2

I really enjoyed this activity it was fun and easy! I chose my name as my blog title because it will let everyone know my name. My experience in creating this blog was fun because I have never done a blog before and it was very simple. All the directions are layed out so it makes doing this very quick and easy. I really enjoyed making the avatar. The avatar does reflect my self in that I do have blonde hair, green eyes, I like to drink coffee, and my favorite color is pink. I really enjoyed this activity!

Thing # 1

I agree with the statement in the video that it is never to soon or to late for learning. People are learning everyday whether it is in magazines, movies, the workplace, or a book, learning is in affect. I feel that the habit that is easiest for me would be habit number 2 because I do accept responsibility for my learning. The responsibility I take would be studying, giving praise for myself when I do well, and when i do not do so well I work harder. The habit that is harder for me is habit number 4 which is having confidence in myself. I always second guess myself and I always worry that things will go bad when usually they turn out good. I feel I can fix this by just going for any obstacle that  may come my way and not turning back! By taking this course and getting used to the new technology I want to learn about all the different techniques and ideas are that are being used in schools today.
